• When one door closes, another one opens.

Angel Oracle Cards

Angel oracle cards are great for inspiration and guidance; they can be a useful tool to add clarity to your situation. They are a connection with your angels and spirit guides. They work by allowing messages to flow through the cards. Angel oracle cards are much easier to use than tarot cards and many feel better about using them over traditional tarot decks.

Once a week I thought I would draw a card and post it up on here, giving you a description about the card that was selected, it would be great to hear with comments on whether that particular card had a connection with your current situation in life.
 from you

I am a huge fan of Dr. Doreen Virtue, she has created some beautiful and very user friendly angel oracle card decks to offer guidance along our spiritual path. The Daily Guidance from Your Angels Oracle Cards is a beautiful deck filled with 365 channelled meditations, each card offers comforting and uplifting messages, to set a positive and healing tone for the day.

Carers Week

A month ago I was approached by Katie Corner if I would be interested in attending an event, a pamper day for carers. Initially I swayed, as at the time of this request I had just badly broken my arm, and was unsure as to whether I would be fit enough to offer treatments, but with a little calculation and some thought I decided it might be what I need to return to work gently, and what better way than using Reiki.

The event was on behalf of the Royal Princess Trust and organised for careers week, this was to be held at Leigh Park Community Centre on Wednesday 15th June 2011.

I arrived just after 9am and was shown the room that we would all be working in, many of the therapists were already there and in the process of setting up, but after quick introductions we all got on with our day ahead, there was so much positive energy flowing. The centre was buzzing and it was clear that many carers had jumped at the chance for some therapy for themselves, instead of offering 24 hour care to ill loved ones. One by one we called our clients into the room, to offer them our services. I was offering a 20 minute taster session of Reiki.

As I asked each client to lay down on my couch my first question was to ask if they had received reiki before, many of whom hadn’t or had no idea what it was, I explained that was working with the energy fields that were within their body and was going to try and balance them out a little.

During the day the Mayor and Mayoress of Havant were circulating around the carers and the therapists, showing a great deal of interest of today’s event.

Reiki treatment throughout the day affected every individual differently, some were close to tears, as they had allowed themselves to pause long enough to think and breathe a little, and other’s felt a sense of peace. There were two very memorable clients, a spritely lady who had just had her feet massaged, marched over to my bed and said to me boldly “I never relax, never stop”, I just smiled and asked her to lay down on my couch, after 20 minutes I had finished and tapped her gently on the shoulder, she had so totally relaxed she was beginning to drift off to sleep, she opened her eyes, and they smiled at me as did her face, “My child you are wonderful, I have never felt like that, it was amazing!” “You have performed a miracle” she explained. She had experienced only a small taster of what Reiki can do and it was visually clear what benefit she had had from it. I escorted her from the room and gave her my price list and wished her a pleasant day.

My other memorable client was a wonderful gentleman, and the presence of a gentle giant, he entered the treatment room a little cautiously as he had never received any type of pampering of any kind before, so had no idea what to expect. He was asked to lay down on my couch and I explained yet again what it was I did briefly, his words “You think you will find some energy in this Yorkshire man?” At the end of his session, I had to wake him up, he had relaxed so much.....and couldn’t express how much I had converted him, after saying that he was a complete sceptic.

Having spoken with the other girls during our lunch break it was very apparent to all of us how so many of the carers felt as though they were not worthy of any form of pampering, that they felt guilty for allowing time for themselves and they way that they all expressed sincere gratitude to all of us for offering our services today. I don’t think there was one of us that left after our day was done not feeling a little humble and over whelmed by the day.
I know I for one am now looking at avenues I can offer Reiki on a volunteer basis for those that need it.

Our lives are made of stepping stones

All of us experience major and minor life challenges. How we handle these struggles on a daily basis determines our physical, as well as our mental well-being.

Ask yourself do you easily panic and become frantic, or do you stay positive and energetic? Do you make small problems big, like mountains, or do you make big problems small, like mole hills? Will you be lost and destroyed under stress or will you have strong enough coping skills to stay in control and do the best that can be done? Will you have the resiliency to come out stronger than you ever were?

People who panic do not have full control of their mental energy. Their minds are unfocused and cloudy, and because of their confused state of mind things appear complicated and small problems seem vast. They would usually react emotionally to situations by becoming anxious, and irritable

Everything is a huge problem for negative people; they generate a huge amount of mental and physical stress, especially with anything that rocks their comfort zone. They will often make statements such as….I can’t; it’s too difficult and I don’t know how, why is this happening to me. Positive people use their creatively when a challenge arises, and face it head on, their positive attitude and outlook on how to overcome situations clarifies the challenge that is presented to them.

You need to understand that your personal challenges are in your life for a reason - to help you grow. There will be mistakes, so learn from them, there will be challenges that seem hard, face them head-on, whatever the challenges, and learn to overcome them. By not choosing to grow from them you will remain stuck in their consequences and are likely to repeat the same challenges again and again.

An attitude of positivity may not only change your perception, it will also provide many surprising health benefits. In fact published data suggests that

• To achieve good physical health our mental attitude may be as important as diet and exercise

• The younger we can incorporate a positive attitude to life, the greater the long-term benefits

A positive attitude can be learned, were we can use our strengths and virtues to function at our best enhance self-esteem and improve our sense of happiness and general well-being. Positive emotions change not only our mindset but our actual biochemistry!

If we can remain fully engaged in the day at hand, enjoying all it has to offer and putting our energy into making the most of it, we will find that we are perfectly ready and capable to handle any future when it arrives.

Nothing says it quite like a hug!

A hug is a form of physical intimacy, usually involving closing or holding the arms around the neck or waist of another person, if more than two persons are involved, this is referred to as a group hug.

There are many interesting health and emotional benefits to hugging. One of the most interesting effects of the hug is its ability to lower blood pressure and heart rate. When a person is hugged their comfort level is increases.

A hug also communicates many things to many people, sometimes in association with a kiss, eye contact or other gestures; it can indicate familiarity, love, affection or friendship. If we follow social psychology, we become aware of the many benefits that result in the body and mind when we feel accepted or understood by another person. Even though a deep conversation can have these effects, sometimes a hug is a form of non verbal communication, saying things you don’t have words for, therefore creating a feeling of acceptance and compassion. Thus we become more relaxed, happier and our entire attitude tends to improve. As a direct result our heart rate becomes relaxed, and over a period of time, lower heart rates and increased time spent being happy can actually lower blood pressure and have very effective bonuses to heart health.

Another important benefit of a hug is the effect that it can on the mental state of an individual, as well as the physical. People who hug more frequently tend to be more open about their emotions and develop a greater sense of closeness and compassion to those around them. Hugging can open up mental blocks, allowing an individual to feel increased feelings of happiness and even triggering a small release of dopamine.

Hugs are not much different than Reiki or any other contact healing technique, it's all the same, it's all energy, healing is energy, healing is frequency. The nature of the harmonic is to create balance and raise frequency. Energy exchanges create an electromagnetic flow that can temporarily heal or at least bring someone into greater understanding about getting help.

A hug is a positive exchange of energy between two or more people. Healing is sometimes about simply having someone hold you in their arms and feeling their love, caring and compassion, a way to share both good and bad times with others. A hug can create a connection that one cannot express in words, it generally makes everyone feel good, and can make one feel safe and secure, also lifting our spirits and make us smile.

Some people are not comfortable with the physical embrace, yet a quick hug can go a long way. A hug is meant for everyone, and the nicest thing about a hug is that you usually can't give one without getting one.

Hugging

It's wondrous what a hug can do.
A hug can cheer you when you're blue
A hug can say, "I love you so,"
Or, "I hate to see you go."
A hug is "Welcome back again."
And "Great to see you! Where 'er you been?"
A hug can soothe a small child's pain
And bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug, there's just no doubt about it --
We scarcely could survive without it!
A hug delights and warms and charms;
It must be why God gave us arms
Hugs are great for fathers and mothers,
Sweet for sisters, swell for brothers;
And chances are your favorite aunts
love them more than potted plants.
Kittens crave them, puppies love them,
Heads of states are not above them.
A hug can break the language barrier
And make your travel so much merrier.
No need to fret about your store of 'em;
The more you give, the more there are of 'em.
So stretch those arms without delay
And give someone a hug today!

Reiki and Mental Health

What is Reiki?

When the flow of the "Life Force Energy" is disrupted, weakened or blocked, emotional or health problems tend to occur. Imbalances can be caused from many situations occurring in our lives, such as: emotional or physical trauma, injury, negative thoughts and feelings, including fear, worry, doubt, anger, anxiety, negative self-talk, toxicity, nutritional depletion, destructive lifestyle and relationships, neglect of self and lack of love for oneself or others, from emotions that are not expressed in a healthy way.

Reiki is excellent for healing any physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues of any kind and it gives wonderful results.

Reiki is a traditional Japanese technique based on the Eastern concepts of the seven energy centre’s (chakras) in the body and energy flow between them. It is a powerful technique that releases the negative energy of the body often responsible for poor mental health.

Mental illness is often associated with the lower Chakras of the body. These include the root chakra, the navel chakra and even the solar plexus chakra.

Root Chakra is associated with the color red. This chakra is the grounding force that allows us to connect to the earth energies and empower our beings. It controls a variety of organs including the supernal glands responsible for adrenalin production. In high levels, adrenalin has been linked by science to mental illnesses such as anxiety disorder.

The reproductive and creative centre of a human being can be found at the Sacral (Naval) Chakra. It is associated with the color orange or red-orange. This chakra often offers us the opportunity to lessen our "control issues" and find a balance in our lives, teaching us to recognize that acceptance and rejection are not the only options in our relationships. It controls the renal, lymphatic and reproduction systems, as well as gastric juices and the bloodstream. Energy blockages in this area result in emotional paralysis, reduced libido, decreased feelings of self-esteem and suicidal tendencies.

The power centre of an individual is the Solar Plexus Chakra. It is associated with the colour yellow. This is the area which defines our "self-esteem". This intuitive chakra is where we get our "gut instincts" that signal us to do or not to do something. Strong self-esteem is a required for developing intuitive skills. It is associated with the body’s automatic nervous system, spleen, digestive system, gallbladder and liver. Those with energy blockages in this area may experiences of confrontation where s/he has to be honest with their feelings, may withdraw from socializing, feel easily dejected or discouraged and experience persistent feelings of inadequacy.

A Reiki practitioner then uses the touch of their hands to clear these blockages to encourage the body’s natural healing process. Fully clothed, they will sequentially place their hands over parts of the body that correspond to the different energy centre’s, using actual touch or distant touch. This way they are able to detect energy blockages in the body that may be the cause of stress, mental or physical illness. The practitioner will then use their own energy to manipulate the body’s energy flow, relieving symptoms, and increasing feelings of health and well being.

Spirit Messengers

When messengers show up, they point to a ‘moment’ … they come at a specific time to get our attention
The Robin Redbreast
The robin redbreast is a bird of Spring, a time of new growth and new beginnings. It flies into our lives on the winds of change asking us to weed our personal gardens and plant new seeds for our future. Rebirth and renewal require changes in all areas of life that have become stagnant and outdated. The robin redbreast teaches us to how to make these changes with joy in our hearts. Its song is a happy one reminding us to let go of our personal drama and learn to laugh with life. If this medicine is underdeveloped those with this totem are continually challenged by the prospects of change. Difficulties arise and emotional discord can surface. Learning how to release our attachments to the old is one of the life lessons the redbreast helps us master.
This bird packs a powerful punch. It holds strong significance in ancient myth and lore. One legend had its origins in European mythology, in which the bird of Spring was associated with the New Year and represented divine sacrifice and the rebirth of the spirit.

In Medieval Europe the robin redbreast was often depicted attending the Christ child, an emblem of the Passion to come. It was told how, at that fateful hour, it was the tiny robin who flew to Jesus' Crown of Thorns, striving valiantly to pluck the spines away with his beak. Unfortunately the bird succeeded only in tearing his own breast on the thorns. Ever since then it was thought that all robins wore red feathers on their bosoms as a badge of honor. The robin redbreast is a bird of divine service. Those with this totem often have past life ties to the Christ energy. They make excellent priests and missionaries.
The red coloring of the robins chest is linked to the kundalini in man. This life force lives coiled up within the base of the spine. When sufficient spiritual growth has been attained it uncoils, rising up the spine to create heightened awareness. This process enhances psychic vision which leads us into enlightenment. Those with this medicine are dedicated spiritual seekers. Growth can be slow and arduous. With patience, compassion and proper focus spiritual ideals are achieved.
Robins lay powder blue eggs. This is the color associated with the throat chakra in man. It is also linked to heavenly inspiration. Because the throat chakra's main function is to express the will of God and the egg is symbolic of new life, this helpful little totem teaches us how to assert the creative will of God in all we do. It leads us into new beginnings without fear by restoring faith within our hearts.
